Evaluation for four reagent kits and two flame photometers used to determine sodium and potassium in serum.

چکیده
The Stanbio and Medi-Chem sodium and po. tassium kits were evaluated and the results compared with those obtained with the Coleman Jr. Model 21, NIL 4-7000, and Technicon flame photometers. Day-to.day reproducibility studies and data based on comparative studies with sera from patients revealed that the Stanbio and Medi-Chem sodium kits and the Medi-Chem potassium kit give diagnostically unsatisfactory results. Results with the Stanbio potassium kit were reproducible, but further improvement is required, as indicated by nonspecificity in the analyses of patient sera. Instability of the Coleman Jr. flame photometer made it difficult to obtain acceptable data in these tests, particularly for sodium, while the NIL flame photometer had good precision and accuracy.

Enzymatic determination of sodium, potassium, and chloride in abnormal (hemolyzed, icteric, lipemic, paraproteinemic, or uremic) serum samples compared with indirect determination with ion-selective electrodes.
We evaluated the effect of hemolysis, icteric discoloration, lipemia, paraproteinemia, and uremia on enzymatic methods for determining sodium, potassium, and chloride, according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards EP7-P proposals for testing interference from endogenous substances. The sodium, potassium, and chloride assays (reagent kits supplied by Boehringer Mannheim) ...
متن کاملThe determination of calcium in biological fluids by flame photometry.
The use of flame photometers has greatly simplified and expedited the estimation of sodium and potassium. Calcium is one of the elements which it is possible to determine by flame photometry, but little advantage has been taken of this fact in biological work for a number of reasons. The concentration of calcium in extracellular fluids is usually less than that of potassium ; a given quantity o...
متن کاملApplication of a vidicon spectrometer for simultaneous flame-emission analysis for sodium and potassium in serum.
We describe a unique new approach to analytical spectroscopy, which makes use of a silicon-target vidicon tube to rapidly and repetitively scan ultraviolet and visible spectra. We discuss the concept and characteristics of the vidicon spectrometer and illustrate its application to simultaneousdeterminationof sodium and potassium In serum by flame photometry. Average values of coefficients of va...
متن کاملContinuous-recording flame photometry of sodium and potassium in serum.
Serum sodium and potassium analyses by continuous-flow flame photometry is a well-accepted procedure (1, 2). Recently Habig and Williamson (3) have used the widely available Instrumentation Laboratory Model 143 (IL-143) flame photometer for continuousflow analyses. Pennacchia et al. (4) have operated this flame photometer at rates as high as 120 samples per hour. In both systems the results app...
متن کاملEvaluation of the total analytical error in the flame photometry method
Background and Objectives: For total analytical error, imprecision (SD) and bias, performance goals for laboratory tests have most often been developed. A total analytical error goal requires that the combination of errors from all sources (random and systematic errors) be within some acceptable limit. M...
